Tuesday 7pm March 8
Women and Socialism - International Women's Day public meeting, backroom of Wetherspoons, Havelock Road, Hastings
More info Many people today believe that sexism and the oppression of women is a thing of the past - but a cursory look at the statistics reveals a different story. The wage gap between men and women in full-time work is around 20 percent. This figure rises to a median gap of 10,000 pounds a year if we include part-time work. Just 1 in 14 rape cases result in a conviction. Although great strides forward have been made in the struggle for women's liberation, clearly sexism still pervades the society we live in. But can it be beaten? Has sexism always existed?
Is it true that there are significant genetic differences between men and women? Are the struggles for the emancipation of the working class and the liberation of women separate, or intimately linked? To coincide with international women's day, Hastings Socialist Party will be holding a discussion on these issues and their relevance for today. Find out more here...
