South East anti-cuts dayschool!

Unite with anti-cuts campaigners, trade unionists and stop the cuts groups and individuals from across the South East!

The Brighton Stop the Cuts Coalition Anti-Cuts Day School is shaping up nicely. We would very much encourage activists from across the South East to come along, share ideas and step up the struggle against cuts after the huge TUC demo.

Open from 10am for a 10:45am start.
Its free and open to all!

Speakers include Alex Gordon RMT President, Derek Wall Green Economist, speakers from Keep the NHS Public, Defend Council Housing, Unions, campaigns across the area + much more. The day will include many different sessions with plenty of time for debate and discussion.

Brighton Keep the Post Public campaign launched

A coalition of postal workers, post service users, trade unionists and community campaigners attended the Brighton CWU Keep the Post Public campaign launch meeting on Thursday October 7.

Introducing the discussion were speakers CWU general secretary Billy Hayes, Caroline Lucas Green Party MP, National Pensioners Convention general secretary Dot Gibson, Unison South East regional secretary Phil Wood and former Labour Party Kemptown constituency parliamentary candidate Simon Burgess.

Debate moved from highlighting the overwhelming economic and social benefits of fighting to keep postal services in public ownership to ideas on organising the campaign as part of the overall tsunami of cuts to public services and jobs, helping to build solidarity for potential strike action among all trade unionists.

Dot Gibson received one of many loud rounds of applause when she suggested Labour Party councillors, and all those elected who say they are opposed to cuts, should force an immediate by-election by resigning and restanding on the promise of fighting, not some, but every cut and to allow the people of Brighton to have their say.

Keep The Post Public stall success!

The KEEP THE POST PUBLIC CAMPAIGN stall in Brighton Kemptown, Saturday 18th September was a great success. Thanks to all who came and showed support, including The Green Party, Brighton & Hove labour Group, GMB, Unison, Brighton & Hove Trades Council... But above all the Public of Brighton & Kemptown, and across the country who overwhelmingly Do not want their Postal Service privatised.

Members of the public voiced serious concerns about their MP Simon Kirby, and want to know where he is and what he is doing for his constituents. Their is no Public mandate to sell off their postal service, will you heed the voice of your constituents Mr. Kirby?

Their will be a PUBLIC MEETING on 7th October at the BRIGHTHELM CENTRE 7.30PM, Caroline Lucas will be speaking in support of the campaign and other speakers are being arranged, further information will be circulated soon.
